Community Circle

School Event

Our first Community Circle of the year will take place on November 29th.

On Community Circle days, students and families gather in Ravina Field (not the park, but the playing field with the baseball diamonds).  Ravina Field can be accessed through the teacher parking lot on Jennings, steps down from the end of Rowland St, and steps up from Ravina Gardens Park.

We gather there at drop off (8:45am), and attendance is taken at 8:50am.  Students at daycare will walk to the field with teachers.

Community Circles generally take about 20 minutes, and family members are invited to be part of the circle.

Shared Responsibilities -arrive on time (8:50am; supervision begins at 8:40)

  • join the circle with your classmates              
  • greet others within the circle
  • listen attentively when others are speaking  
  • promote active listening from others nearby

Families

  • ensure transfer of care of their child to teacher (if unable to stay)
  • find a place within the circle with your child (if able to stay)


Students

  • report for attendance by 8:50
  • gather near their classmates 
  • help facilitate circle (when it’s their turn to lead)

Staff

  • supervise students and complete attendance
  • help facilitate circle (when it’s their turn to lead)
  • introduce occasional teachersAdditionally, when it is time to head back to the school, teachers will lead their classes, but especially in younger grades, if some parents can walk back with the class that is appreciated.  Students will enter the school via the Jennings doors, so it’s a short walk.
